What you need to know about professional genealogy research
It is very important that our clients provide us with as much information on their family tree as possible (such as names, maiden names, birth dates/places, residences, marriage dates/places, death dates/places, etc.). For this reason we provide our clients with blank pedigree (family tree)
charts to fill in as much information as possible once research services have been requested. Why is it so important for our clients to provide us with this information? It is very important for the "success of multiple generation research and documentation (going back in time)" based on the fact that "post- 1930 records" (in the USA) can be "highly restrictive" due to privacy laws (in Canada and the British Isles - "post 1911 records can be restrictive"). For instance, in the State of Michigan - birth records/certificates "less than 100 years old" are only available to those living persons named on the record, etc. While we can locate living individuals and find some post 1930 records in the USA (such as marriage, death, social security death indexes, naturalization, residential, etc.) – it may be necessary for the “success of a research project” that the client "provide us with information on their ancestors going back to at least 1930 (in the USA) or 1911 (in Canada and the British Isles)". It is also important to understand that while some family lines can be traced back to the 1700's (or before) many family lines can only be traced back to the beginning of civil records (early to late-1800's). Professional genealogists cannot guarantee finding specific information a client may be seeking on their family tree and cannot predict the amount of time it will take to prove relationships or discover information the client seeks. It is important to remember clients pay a professional genealogist "for their time spent researching and documenting, etc.". For this reason we also provide a "letter of agreement" upon request of research services.
Your Ancestral Family, LLC believes in researching "all" of a clients family tree (pedigree lines) to give the client a "complete picture" of their family history and heritage. If the client wishes we can also research just a "specific family line or family line's" on their family tree and we provide a " free consultation " to determine the cost and time of a research project.
